Cats Clobber Cavaliers, 93-68

CLAREMORE, Okla. - No. 3 Rogers State found yet another way to befuddle its opponent with its juggernaut offense Wednesday night.

This time it was senior Spencer Schrupp who stole the show, scoring a career-high 18 points in the Hillcats 93-68 win over St. Gregory's (Shawnee, Okla.) at the Claremore Expo. Schrupp became the eighth different player to lead RSU in scoring in just 13 games this season. The Choctaw, Okla., native finished the evening 7-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.

Five players reached double figures in the scoring column for coach Lloyd Williams. Sylvester Spicer posted 13 points while Deveric Taylor, Eric Young and Roderick Rodgers each had 10.

RSU stumbled out of the gate and found itself trailing 17-16 at the 12 minute mark of the first half. The Cats reeled off a 20-3 run over the next seven minutes and pushed the lead to 45-29 at the break. St. Gregory's hung around in the early part of the second period but couldn't close the margin any closer than 13 points. Back-to-back treys by Aldric Reynolds inside the 10 minute mark officially put the game out of reach at 68-48.

All 12 Hillcat players received playing time and 11 found their way into the scorebook. Reynolds tallied seven points while Scottie Farrington, Matt Kellogg, Chris Francis and Joey Twilley each chipped in with six. Maurice Rutherford rounded out the scoring for RSU with one point.

The Hillcats boasted 17 assists compared to just nine turnovers and shot 50 percent from the field. SGU was held to 40 percent shooting and committed 17 turnovers. Daniel Romano led the Cavs in scoring with 14 points.

Rogers State (13-0, 7-0) maintained its undefeated status and the top spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the victory. The Hillcats will endure their second road test of the week when they travel to No. 18 Oklahoma Baptist Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
