CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State took care of business Saturday afternoon by downing the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 69-60 at the Claremore Expo.
Â
The win came on the heels of an impressive road win Thursday night at No. 25 Oklahoma Christian and kept the Hillcats in the thick of the conference race at the official midpoint of the SAC schedule.
Â
RSU raced out to a 13-point lead and managed to keep the Drovers at arm's length the rest of the afternoon. Kali Bassett capped a 15-2 start with a wing trey at the 14:30 mark of the first half.
Â
The Cats used their interior size and strength to bully a smaller USAO lineup. Forwards Jenny Hardin, Yoda Woods and Logan Froese combined for 37 points and 28 rebounds in the contest. RSU hauled in 53 rebounds while holding the Drovers to 31. Hardin and Woods each recorded a double-double.
Â
The Hillcats opened up a 19 point lead early in the second half on a pair of free throws by Hardin. A quick 9-1 spurt by the Drovers cut the margin to single digits with under eight minutes to play. However, USAO would get no closer as RSU methodically worked the clock in the closing minutes.
Â
Hardin finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Woods tallied 10 points and 10 boards. Froese just missed a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. USAO's Krista Beaty led all scorers with 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting.
Â
Rogers State (15-4, 7-4) maintained its grasp on fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the victory. The Hillcats will have an opportunity to unseat fourth place Lubbock Christian Thursday night in Lubbock, Texas. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
