Rogers State Defeats Lubbock Christian, 68-59

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State overcame turnovers to defeat Lubbock Christian 68-59 Saturday afternoon at the Claremore Expo. The Hillcats turned the ball over 18 times but still came away with the victory behind another strong offensive performance by Sylvester Spicer.

Spicer went to work in the second half tallying 12 points in the period to finish with a team high 18 for the game. Midway through the second half the senior, from Dallas, went to work in the low post scoring seven points over a four minute stretch.

RSU rallied around strong outside shooting in the second period as the Cats knocked down 71 percent of its shots from behind the arc in the half. The 3-point shooting clinic was instructed by junior guard Deveric Taylor who finished with 15 points for the afternoon on 5-of-8 shooting from long distance.

While the Cats couldn't seem to hold on to the ball with 18 turnovers, LCU finished with nine turnovers to go along with 10 assists. It was bench points that made the difference for RSU outscoring LCU 23-4. John Boyd led the Hillcat reserves with 13 points.

Al Duvall led all scorers with 23 points while shooting an incredible 70 percent from 3-point range. Kenny Hewitt finished with 14 points for the Chaps before fouling out with just under a minute remaining in the game.

The Hillcats out rebounded the Chaparrals 42-28 for the afternoon. Just on the defensive end the Cats were able to pull down 29 boards.

Rogers State (18-10, 11-9) will play its final road game of the regular season Thursday night against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Okla. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
