CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State softball team scored a season-high 14 runs to win 14-6 over Texas-Permian Basin and get the 2-1 Heartland Conference series win on Sunday at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Hillcats totaled 19 hits, a season high. RSU scored runs in five of the six innings, including seven runs in the third inning, and all nine players in the lineup registered a hit. Freshman
Katelyn Gamble went 4 for 4 with three RBI and five runs scored.
Arika Araujo also went 4 for 4 with two RBI.
Taylor Sutterfield tallied three hits, including her first career home run.
With a 1-1 tie, RSU poured on four runs in the second inning. A Gamble single up the middle plated the first two runs as
Ashleigh Stidman and
Taylor Santistevan scored for a 3-1 advantage. A two-run double to right field by
Morgen Blanchard upped the edge to 5-1 in the second inning.
After a three-run home run by UTPB in the top of the third, the Hillcats responded with an outburst of seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 12-4 lead. Sutterfield started the scoring with a solo home run to center field. Gamble struck again with an infield single to plate another run. A sac fly by Blanchard increased the lead to 8-4. After an error allowed another run to score,
Jamie Kowalick singled to left field to bring in
Katlin Alexander. The final two runs of the inning came on a Santistevan single to left field to plate Kowalick and Araujo for the 12-4 advantage.
In the fourth inning, RSU added one run on an Araujo single to center to score Gamble to make it 13-4. Araujo produced again in the sixth inning with an RBI single to right center to score Gamble from third to make it 14-6 and end the game due to the run rule.
Mayra Helguera came in for relief and pitched 3.1 innings to get the win.
Jessica Christian went the final inning and allowed only one hit.
Rachel Jones started and went the first 1.2 innings and didn't allowed a hit with one run and one strikeout.
The Hillcats (12-19, 2-10 HC) end its nine-game homestand on Tuesday in a nonconference tilt against Oklahoma Baptist at 4 p.m. at the Diamond Sports Complex. Follow the game on the Hillcat Network at
