CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's basketball team put an emphatic finish on its 2014-15 season thrashing Dallas Baptist, 92-62, at the Claremore Expo Center Monday night.
The Hillcats finished the season 20-8 overall and second in the Heartland Conference at 14-6. The win pushed the team to its seventh 20-plus win season in the program's eight-year history. Two seniors posted double-doubles as
Frederico Santos scored a game-high 20 points grabbing 13 rebounds while
DesJuan Newton matched a single-game record with 10 assists and added 12 points.
The Patriots got the scoring started with their bread and butter, a three-pointer by Myles Johnson but RSU quickly recovered with the next four points and built a six-point edge, 20-14 at the midpoint of the half.
Donald Moore started a 16-0 run for the Hillcats to break open the game, 38-19, until Franklin Uzonwanne's free throw ended a five-minute DBU drought. Moore increased the lead to 21 and the half ended with RSU in front, 48-29, despite Johnson's buzzer-beating triple.
Santos got the scoring started in the second stanza as the Hillcats opened with eight-straight points and the margin swelled as high as 38 after Newton's layup with 7:18 to play.
Tanner Gregurich connected from long range in the final seconds as RSU claimed the, 92-62, victory.
Hartzler came off the bench to score 15 points and Moore hit double figures scoring 11 as the Hillcats knocked down 10 treys and shot 52 percent from the floor on the night. The team dished out 23 assists on 38 made field goals as eight different players had at least one.
Johnson paced DBU with 14 points and Tim Simmons added 11 from the bench as the Patriots close the year 14-14 overall.
RSU ends its season with a 20-8 record as
