About: Layton is back on the Hill for his senior campaign following his first year in the navy and red in 2014 where he made 14 appearances, starting in one contest at Oklahoma Wesleyan. A native of Enid, Oklahoma, he tied for the team lead with two saves, pitching 19.1 innings finishing with a 0-2 record. Layton came to RSU from Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa spending two seasons under Head Coach Terry Ballard. He recorded a 4-1 record with two saves and a 2.00 earned run average as a sophomore in 2013 with 60 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched. Layton posted a 4-0 mark during his freshman season with the Mavericks registering one save behind a 1.73 ERA totaling 53 strikeouts in 29 innings. He was an Oklahoma All-State selection as a senior at Pioneer High School helping Head Coach Dave Riesen and the Mustangs to an appearance at the state tournament. Layton finished his senior season with a 5-1 record and a 1.71 ERA posting 70 strikeouts while hitting .523 with 60 RBI. The son of Tammy Houston and Erie Layton, he said he chose RSU because of the "excellent baseball program."
