Hillcat Men Cruise Past Crusaders, 94-57

Claremore, Okla. - In its final non-conference home contest, the Rogers State men's basketball team registered a 94-57 victory over Dallas Christian at the Claremore Expo Thursday evening.
 
DesJuan Newton registered a career-high 19 points, leading five players in double-figures. The senior went 9-11 from the field, fourth all-time in single-game shooting percentage. Frederico Santos hauled in a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the Hillcats on the night as RSU dominated the boards, 51-29.
 
In the first frame, RSU reeled off a 14-0 run, highlighted by consecutive treys by Donald Moore and Deran Banton, to push the Hillcats lead to 19 points with eight minutes to play in the half. The Hillcats stretched the advantage to 38-10 with a 9-2 run and held on to the 28-point lead at intermission as the Crusaders trailed 45-17.
 
The Crusaders opened the second stanza with a strong push, outscoring the Hillcats 13-10 over the first four minutes of play. The Hillcats answered with a 10-3 spurt, capped by a Jordan Huffman three-pointer. RSU rounded out the game on a 13-0 run with Carlos Perez posting 11 points in the final three minutes.
 
J.C. Hartzler dished out seven assists while Corey Ayala tallied six, leading the team to a season-high 21 assists.
 
Trent Dawson led DCC in scoring with a game-high 29 points knocking down five three pointers.
 
Rogers State (5-2) returns to the hardwood Saturday as the Hillcats travel to Lawton, Oklahoma for a non-conference tilt against Cameron at 3 p.m. The game can be heard live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
